Deaf man always looking to make new friends! Hello: I'm a deaf gay writer and filmmaker who's always delighted to make friends no matter where I go, and I do travel a bit all over the country, often to give readings or talks. I'm fluent in English and American Sign Language (ASL), and fairly fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) with smatterings of NGT (Dutch Sign Language) and German Sign Language (DGS). :-) Well, what else do I like? Dogs, literature (poetry and fiction), art (getting more and more into painting these days), films (well, DVDs since they are closed-captioned or subtitled for information accessibility), travel, deaf culture, Macintosh computers, good food, etc. Even though I've lived in New York City for 17 years, I find myself very much still a Midwestern boy at heart and much happier living here in Minneapolis. (I grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.) And oh yeah, as a hairy man, I don't know if I'd call myself a "bear" as I'm not of the beefy and burly type [email] lbs here), nor have I made a practice of hanging out in bear bar events. (It can be hard for me to hear your voice or lipread you in an environment where the music is too loud and/or the lighting is too dim.) I just like the idea that after years of being too thin and/or too hairy to fit in the so-called twink standard that was perpetuated in bars for far too long, I can finally have the option of being accepted *AS I AM*. :-) I'm interested in making new friends in the Twin Cities area.
